To Everything, There is a Season…

When is the best time to purchase a camper or RV? “In certain industries, the prices for products always drop at certain times of the year” says Dave Pogue, founder of YahooTech.com, and New York Times best selling author, in his book “Pogue’s Basics: Money: Essential Tips and Shortcuts (That No One Bothers to Tell You) About Beating the System.” In his book he offers lots of tips on how to save and make money. He says there are specific times of the year to find the best deals on everything.

For example, January is a great time to purchase fitness equipment. This is because after the indulgences of the holiday’s everyone is thinking about getting into shape for the new year. And what a better time to offer sales on fitness equipment! It turns out June is the best time to buy a gym membership. In June the demand is low because people are more interested in spending time outdoors rather than in a gym. The best time to buy swimwear is in August. And there are great buys on camping gear in August too because the summer is over and the demand is low.

Best Time to Buy an RV

The winter months are considered the “off” season because well, the demand for campers and RV’s is not as great. Also when the next year’s models start hitting the sales lot, many dealerships are very interested in selling last year’s models to make room for the newer ones.

According to an article on TripSavvy.com “…camper and RV dealers operate on monthly and yearly schedules, just like auto dealers. This means if they have not met their sales quotas by month or year’s end, they will be eager to move some RVs. You may also find sweet spots during the middle of fall when the RV season is coming to an end in most of the US. Dealers will be eager to sell before the chilly weather settles in. This may be the perfect time to negotiate a deal out of the dealer or target a salesperson who may not be having the best month selling.”

Other Things to Consider

Another indicator of a good time to buy is fuel prices. At Camping.lovetoknow.com they state that “When fuel prices are high, the demand for RVs decreases. The supply of recreational vehicles therefore increases. This can mean that dealers find themselves with more RVs than they want. They’ll often go to great lengths to sell them, offering wonderful bargains in order to generate sales.”

Know your dealer. Be sure you are working with a dealership that has your best interests in mind. Don’t allow someone to sell you something that doesn’t really fit your needs. Make sure they understand what you are looking for and why. Let them help you find the best camper or RV that fits your needs and your budget. Then you can negotiate for the best possible price.

Now is the Best Time to Buy an RV

Factors to take into consideration are the time of the year, the economic situation, and fuel prices. However, you can always negotiate to get the best price. Do your research before you start shopping. Educate yourself and be prepared when you walk into the dealership. As an educated consumer, working with the right dealership, you have every advantage on your side. At East Coast Campers and More we strive to make sure our customers are getting what they want at the best possible price every day of the year!

How to Pick Your Custom RV Interior and Exterior

Picking a custom RV interior and exterior can truly personalize your new Canterbury Park Model Trailer to your taste and style.

There are so many options to choose from, so how do you decide?

The Canterbury Park Model Trailers have so many options to choose from, and they are all stunning.

Mix and match the interior and exterior choices until you come up with the right combination for you and your family.

Consider colors, textures, and other accessories you will be adding to your trailer. Don’t forget to consider the color and style of the RV itself when making your final design choices.

There are four different styles to choose from when considering your interior design for upholstery and accents; Bay Oyster, Camel, Graphite, Mystic Blue, and Pewter.

Bay Oyster

This color palette is made up of soft gray/light brown tones and textures resembling those that would be found on a beach with sofa accent pillows that have a bit of a bolder contrast design.

Camel

The camel color palette stands out with its gorgeous desert color tones, with soft light browns and some off white and dark gray accents.

Graphite

The graphite selection has the feel of stone, with darker gray, beige, and whites mixed together for a neutral, but classic design.

Mystic Blue

Mystic Blue is a great choice for your custom RV. With some blue, yellow, and neutral tones mixed together, it’s a bolder choice, but will remain in style for many years.

Pewter

This color palette offers neutral beige, light brown and white tones as well as bolder, darker gray tones.

What to Look For in an RV Club Membership

You’ve decided you want to join an RV club because you love RVing so much and you want to be able to share your passion with other, like-minded travelers.

A great RV club can make your travels easier, safer, and offer some lifelong friendships that you wouldn’t otherwise have.

Imagine being out in your RV traveling, or even stopped for some time at an RV park or a campground, and running into other members of your RV club. It’s an instant ice breaker.

Or perhaps you are out driving and you run out of gas or encounter a mechanical issue. Now, what do you do? If you have a good RV club, you may have roadside assistance to come rescue you.

Here are some things to look for in a good RV club.

What Sort of Perks do you Get With Your RV Club Membership?

All clubs offer perks of some kind. Take a browse through each membership site or information package and make sure you get as much bang for your buck as you can.

Ask around RV forums, at RV retail locations like East Coast Campers and More, and your fellow RV enthusiasts to find out which clubs they prefer and why.

RV Park and Campground Discounts

Most RV clubs offer some type of discounts or preferred rates on campgrounds and RV parks. For Instance, Recreation USA offers camping as low as $10 per day and The Happy Camper Club offers 50% off RV park and campground stays.

These discounts add up over time and can offer significant savings in the long run. That money is better spent on adventures with the family or more supplies for s’mores.

Insurance Discounts

RV clubs, like RV Explorer often have discounts on auto, home, travel, and RV insurance. You may even get a steeper discount for bundling.

Roadside Assistance and Tire Programs

There are a few clubs like the Family Motorcoach Association that offer benefits like roadside assistance and tire programs to their members.

If you don’t already have roadside assistance coverage, this is a great perk to have with your RV club membership.

Subgroups For All Sorts of Hobbies

RV clubs sometimes offer a list of subgroups you can join. These subgroups already share your love of the RV lifestyle, and you can find others who have fun hobbies like Geocaching. There are all kinds of groups from animal lovers to Christian groups.

Escapees have a pretty extensive list of subgroups you can join.

Other Perks

There are all sorts of advantages to joining an RV club that you wouldn’t expect.

Escapees have a program called C.A.R.E. that helps members with assisting their spouses after an injury or illness, or when they can’t care for themselves.

Escapees also have a job exchange program between members. If you are looking for work or looking to hire, you can find opportunities that fit your needs on their site.

Chose the Right RV Club for You

There are all sorts of different RV clubs. Take your time and chose the one that best suits your needs. To help you out, here is a list of RV club websites to get you started on your search.

There is nothing more frustrating than finding out your RV
battery has died on you. It throws a
wrench in the plan, or even worse, having your battery burn up on you because
it wasn’t maintained.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to extend the
life of your battery and take good care of it, so it doesn’t become a safety
hazard.

Making RV battery maintenance part of your regular routine
will prevent irritating disruptions in your vacation plans and keep your family
safe.

There are several different types of batteries, so we will focus on the most common battery type, a lead-acid battery. Please refer to the maintenance department of East Coast Campers and more to get customized recommendations for your specific RV type.

RV Battery Voltage and Why it Matters

With a lead acid battery, you want to make sure you keep the
charge high.

Monitor the charge in your battery and never let it get
below the voltage label of the battery.
For instance, you don’t want a 12-volt battery to go below a 12-volt
charge.

What Happens When Your Battery Charge Gets Low?

When your RV battery starts to lose its charge, it starts forming
crystals called sulfation. Sulfation
starts to form when your battery falls below 80% charge and will kill your
battery.

The good news is, you can take a few simple steps to prevent
battery sulfation and keep your RV battery humming along for as long as
possible.

Keep your Battery Charged

The lower you let the charge drop, the quicker your battery
will die. A battery that drops to 40%
charge every day will die much quicker than one that drops to 60% every day.

The average 12-volt lead acid battery will last
approximately six years.

Make a routine out of checking the charge of your battery
with a handheld digital voltage meter.
This will go a long way in keeping your battery alive for as long as
possible.

If you have a battery disconnect switch, flip it to
disconnect while you aren’t using your RV or when it’s stored during the off
season. This will prevent the slow drain
caused by things like clocks and radios.

The Heat of Summer and Your RV Battery

Monitor your battery in times of high usage or extreme
heat.

Top up water levels using distilled, mineral free
water. If you use tap water, you run the
risk of getting calcium sulfation on your battery.

Be Safe When Checking Your RV Battery

Make sure you always wear gloves when you are handling your
battery. You will want to get a pair of
safety goggles to keep around and never smoke or have an open flame near your
battery.

An RV battery stores a lot of energy, and in some circumstances can cause fires. Battery maintenance should not be taken lightly.

Check out this video by RV Education 101.

Regular Maintenance Is Key

Whether you learn how to do this yourself, or you come in to
see our maintenance department at East Coast Campers and more, it is essential
to your safety that you come up with a regular battery maintenance routine for
your RV.

Call us today to see how we can help.

What Should I Look for in a Used RV

So, you’re ready to buy an RV, but you aren’t sure if you should buy new or used.

A new RV is lovely, with its new car smell, and shiny new finishes, but buying new is not always the best way to go.

Many RVers opt for a used RV because there are so many benefits when compared to buying new. It often comes down to how much bang for your buck there is in a used RV.

You can get a lot more RV for your money when considering used instead of new.

Why You Should Consider Buying a Used RV

Buying a used RV is obviously the most budget-friendly way to get your family into a camper. We’ve all heard it before; a new vehicle depreciates the moment it leaves the Dealer’s lot.

If you drove your RV off the lot and immediately sold it, there would be a significant difference between what you paid and how much you make when you sell it.

This is not the case if you buy used. A used RV holds its value because it already depreciated in someone else’s hands.

The biggest benefit is that it has a proven track record. The previous owner has already worked out all the inconvenient kinks and broken it in for you.

One of the former owners may even have opted for upgrades when it was new. Bonus!

Benefits of a Used RV or Camper

Go ahead and spend the money you saved buying your used RV and go on more vacations or customize the interior to your taste.

If you bought a new house, you would probably change some of the finishes, so why not do the same thing in a used RV, your home away from home.

What Should I Look for in a Used RV?

Make sure you are happy with it.

Just like a used home, there will be a few things that you may decide to compromise on, or you could have changed after you buy it, like the color of the upholstery.

But make sure you have a list of your deal breakers. These are the things you will not budge on, regardless of how good the salesman is.

Always do a thorough walk through to make sure the beds are big enough, the bathroom and showers are a size you are comfortable with. Be sure there is enough storage space for everything you need.

You definitely don’t want to feel like a squished sardine in your new-to-you RV.

Ask a lot of questions. You’ll want to be sure you know as much as you can about the RV before you make that final decision.

Buy Your RV From the Right Dealer

There’s always the risk you will buy a money pit with any RV. At East Coast Campers and More, we put every RV, new or used, through a rigorous and thorough quality check before putting it up for sale.

When asking yourself “What should I look for in a used RV?” The first answer should be a great dealership that will guide you through the process!

No RV is put up for sale unless we consider it good enough that we would buy it ourselves and put our own family it in.

In some cases, we also offer extended warranties through CornerStone United to provide you with some peace of mind on your outdoor adventures.

We may be able to offer financing as well. Come in and ask us about it!
