To Everything, There is a Season…

When is the best time to purchase a camper or RV? “In certain industries, the prices for products always drop at certain times of the year” says Dave Pogue, founder of YahooTech.com, and New York Times best selling author, in his book “Pogue’s Basics: Money: Essential Tips and Shortcuts (That No One Bothers to Tell You) About Beating the System.” In his book he offers lots of tips on how to save and make money. He says there are specific times of the year to find the best deals on everything.

For example, January is a great time to purchase fitness equipment. This is because after the indulgences of the holiday’s everyone is thinking about getting into shape for the new year. And what a better time to offer sales on fitness equipment! It turns out June is the best time to buy a gym membership. In June the demand is low because people are more interested in spending time outdoors rather than in a gym. The best time to buy swimwear is in August. And there are great buys on camping gear in August too because the summer is over and the demand is low.

Best Time to Buy an RV

The winter months are considered the “off” season because well, the demand for campers and RV’s is not as great. Also when the next year’s models start hitting the sales lot, many dealerships are very interested in selling last year’s models to make room for the newer ones.

According to an article on TripSavvy.com “…camper and RV dealers operate on monthly and yearly schedules, just like auto dealers. This means if they have not met their sales quotas by month or year’s end, they will be eager to move some RVs. You may also find sweet spots during the middle of fall when the RV season is coming to an end in most of the US. Dealers will be eager to sell before the chilly weather settles in. This may be the perfect time to negotiate a deal out of the dealer or target a salesperson who may not be having the best month selling.”

Other Things to Consider

Another indicator of a good time to buy is fuel prices. At Camping.lovetoknow.com they state that “When fuel prices are high, the demand for RVs decreases. The supply of recreational vehicles therefore increases. This can mean that dealers find themselves with more RVs than they want. They’ll often go to great lengths to sell them, offering wonderful bargains in order to generate sales.”

Know your dealer. Be sure you are working with a dealership that has your best interests in mind. Don’t allow someone to sell you something that doesn’t really fit your needs. Make sure they understand what you are looking for and why. Let them help you find the best camper or RV that fits your needs and your budget. Then you can negotiate for the best possible price.

Now is the Best Time to Buy an RV

Factors to take into consideration are the time of the year, the economic situation, and fuel prices. However, you can always negotiate to get the best price. Do your research before you start shopping. Educate yourself and be prepared when you walk into the dealership. As an educated consumer, working with the right dealership, you have every advantage on your side. At East Coast Campers and More we strive to make sure our customers are getting what they want at the best possible price every day of the year!

Don’t want to spend a small fortune on a travel trailer, and the vehicle you need to tow it? We’ve got you covered! East Coast Campers and More specializes in towable travel trailers of all sizes. We think towable travel trailers are some of the best and most affordable options for families that want the convenience of getting out in nature with all the comforts of home. And without the hassles of tent camping. Tent camping use to be fun, but that was then, and this is now.

Travel Trailer Benefits

There are many advantages to travel trailers. First and fore most they are cost effective with many floorplan options, sizes, weights. Small teardrop trailers can cost as little as $5,000. Pop-up-style campers start at around $10,000 and a classic travel trailer can start at around $20,000. Many offer bunkhouses or bunk beds for the kids!

Travel trailers can range from 10 to 20 feet and some are light weight enough to be towed by a small SUV or truck. This means they are very fuel efficient and easy to tow. It’s important to know the weight limitations of your tow vehicle when shopping for a towable RV.

Many people also enjoy the flexibility of owing a towable travel trailer versus other types of recreational vehicles. Having a towable RV means you can set up camp and go exploring in your tow vehicle. No need to feel tethered to the campsite.

Best Quality Travel Trailers with Bunk Beds

Two of our best-selling travel trailer brands are Crossroads RV Zinger and the Keystone RV Hideout. Both of these were rated by RVing Planet as the top 2 out of 4 best quality travel trailers with bunk beds. These travel trailers are uber-aerodynamic and provide lots of features that make it easier than ever to use. They are easy to tow by small SUV’s or medium size trucks, easy to set up, and affordable!

The Keystone RV Hideout is a towable rv that features many amenities with lots of different floorplans to choose from. The beautiful contemporary interior design will be the first thing to catch your eye…. textured-glass cabinet doors, batten ceiling strips, reclaimed wood-inspired flooring, deep tint windows throughout, and hard-valance window treatments. You will also appreciate the electric stabilizer jacks, SolarFlex solar power, central vacuum system, in-floor heating ducts, and Tru-fit slide construction. Just a few things that will enhance your camping comfort. And, you can find the perfect lite weight single axle model that weighs less than 4,000 lbs. and sleeps 4-6 people for less than $25,000!

The Crossroads RV Zinger Lites also have floorplans that are under 5,000 lbs. with lots of great features. We’re talking power stabilizer jacks and a totally enclosed and heated underbelly with forced heat. Translate that into cozy, and warm when you need it the most on those chilly nights! It comes prepped for WIFI, solar, and a rear backup camera. Zinger Lites feature tinted windows with blinds, AM/FM stereo system with Bluetooth Soundbar, LED lighting and accent lighting, generous storage, an aerodynamic corrugated front cab, and nitrogen-filled radial tires. There are several single axle models that sleep 4-6 people under 4,000 lbs. for less than $23,000!

What About Financing Options?

Financing is based on the price, your down payment, your credit score, and interest rates, your payments could be as little as $200.00 a month. A great value for family vacations when you consider the cost of a hotel room and dining out. Plus, you get to enjoy the security and comforts of sleeping in your own bed, and having your own stuff, just like home, no matter where you go!

Great for Families

Camping with your family is a great way to spend time together. Whether you enjoy rustic adventures, or a more traditional vacation resort style camping experience, it’s all possible. Check out the travel trailers for sale now on our website at www.eastcoastcampers.com.

From choosing your RV dealer to considering what you hope to get out of RV travel, breaking into this area of auto ownership is much more involved than many beginners realize.

At East Coast Campers, we pride ourselves on providing the information and resources that all soon-to-be RV owners need to make the best decision for their individual needs, budget, and preferences. In this article, we’ll review the 10 things that all new RV owners should know before they hit the road. For more information or to explore our current inventory of models available in Frankford, please contact us or visit our website today!

Buying vs. Renting An RV

In the RV purchasing process, the first step that all potential owners should take is determining whether a permanent buy or a temporary rental is best suited for their needs. Buying an RV is certainly more economical of an investment that pays for itself in just a few years of regular use, but renting has its advantages too in that it allows new drivers to get a feel for a certain travel trailer or park model before they commit to any considerable costs.

At East Coast Campers, we offer a variety of financing options for buyers, from payment installment plans to unbeatable discounts on used models. We want you to love what you buy at our RV dealership, which is why we never compromise our assistance services for new customers.

Work with a professional or a trusted local dealer

You wouldn’t buy a regular car without first consulting some kind of expert, whether it’s a friend who fixes up vehicles in their free time or it’s an experienced salesman at your nearest dealership. The same is true for RVs, whether purchased or leased. If you’re a beginner to the world of recreational vehicles, be sure to speak with a representative from East Coast Campers to ensure you’re getting the best information possible from a competent and knowledgeable professional. We’ve been in the industry for decades, so if you need insight as to what may be the best course of action for your RV acquisition, we’ve got you covered.

Perform independent research

If you’re truly interested in owning or renting an RV, you’ll be better prepared for what’s to come if you research the product details of models you like. There are many different categories of recreational vehicles available, from high-mileage destination trailers to vehicle-attachable travel trailers. East Coast Campers includes detailed information on all of its units, from compact classes like the 2020 Crossroads RV Zinger Lite all the way to the hearty list of facts and figures that accompany a Forest River Sandpiper model. When it comes to finding the perfect RV for your lifestyle and travel companions, whether they’re friends or family, the more you know about your model, the better equipped you’ll be to take care of it and enjoy it for years to come.

Always do a pre-drive inspection

Before you take off in your RV, you’ll want to inspect all elements and areas of the vehicle prior to hitting the pavement. Make a habit of doing this, as just a single part or attachment out of place could cause major structural issues or accidents. You don’t need to know every detail and idiosyncrasy of your RV unit, however, since there are affordable and accommodating inspection services available at East Coast Campers. We even offer parts replacement if necessary. To learn more about our expertise in preliminary and ongoing maintenance, check out our Service & Parts pages online.

Reach your destination at the right time

If you’ve ever tried to set up a tent in the dark, you likely made concerted efforts afterward to avoid encountering the same situation in the future. When driving an RV, getting to your campsite or destination during the daylight hours is especially important, not only for ensuring an easier setup, but also for preventing unwanted hassle and stress in the case that anything should go wrong.

Assess your awning

No driver wants to encounter an issue like a flat tire while en route to a destination. The same goes for the awning on your RV. Before driving anywhere, you’ll always want to inspect this area of your vehicle to make sure that there’s no possibility of the structure unfurling while you’re in motion. East Coast Campers recommends that all recreational vehicles with awnings include secure, durable locks as well.

Know your tire date codes

If you’re not sure about the date of your most recent RV tire installation, you should check its product codes to get an idea. Like many standard cars, an RV needs to have its tires replaced about every 5 to 7 years; of course, this guideline varies depending on frequency of use and cumulative mileage. Regardless of how new your tires may look, worn tread isn’t always easy to spot with the naked eye, so be sure that you’ve received a thorough inspection and tire pressure adjustment before starting a journey with your vehicle.

Keep tools in tow

You never know when something may go wrong with an RV, so even if a breakdown or structural repair is unlikely, it’s far better to be safe than sorry. Be sure that your RV always has a well-stocked tool box somewhere in its interior. Include wrenches, nails, screws, nuts, bolts, wrenches, an air pump, and any other handheld gadgets you think may come in handy.

Lighten your load

It’s often easier said than done, but packing lightly is a critical aspect of optimizing your RV travel and performance. If you don’t need an object or a bulky clothing item on your trip, don’t bring it — simple as that. Lightening the overall load of an RV rig is not only a great way to prevent clutter and cramped quarters, but it improves your fuel efficiency and saves you money on gas expenses.

Map it out

Identifying the route you plan to take with your new recreational vehicle may be more convenient on a smartphone, but a backup map of your end destination is a useful and reliable way to ensure that directions are always available — even when wi-fi or cell phone battery energy isn’t.

Become A New RV Owner In Delaware Today!

If you’re thinking about buying an RV, the type you choose to buy should align with your intended use for the vehicle. Whether you’re planning to do some summer camping or you’re more of an all-season adventurer, knowing and understanding the three main classes of motorhomes can help you narrow down your options and find your ideal camper sooner. So if you’re not sure which type of RV is the right choice, this buyer’s guide is for you!

After reading this blog, you’ll be better equipped to start comparing models of motorhomes from a camper dealer near you. For a wide selection of RVs both new and used, check out our extensive inventory at East Coast Campers & More today! We’re located in Frankford but serve clients throughout the greater Delaware region, and we can even come to you to service your RV within a 50-mile radius.

Class A RVs

The largest motorhomes may come with steeper price tags, but given their maximized functionality and extensive specs, there’s really no better way to go than with a Class A RV. Most class A RVs will range in length from 20 to 45 feet, so even though they’re not always the easiest vehicles to park, their considerable size makes it all worthwhile.

This category of recreational rig is perfect for long-term travel, from cross-country roadtrips to out-of-state snowbirding sessions. In our experience at East Coast Campers, we find that this variety is often recommended for big families or groups that need more storage and living space. To get a better idea of what a Class A RV looks like and what it features, check out this model selection guide from RVing Planet!

Class B RVs

Despite what the name may imply, there’s nothing average about most Class B RVs. This class of motorhome is an excellent choice for campers who plan to spend lots of time outside, so we recommend them for outdoor enthusiasts with a moderate need for rider and storage capacity. A great example we offer here at East Coast Campers is the 2018 Palomino Columbus Fifth Wheel F298RL. Compared to a Class A RV, these “sleeper vans” don’t have as much interior room, but they’re much easier to drive and navigate through steep, narrow, and unpaved terrain. Once you’ve got your tent and camping supplies all packed up, all that’s left to do is buy the right Class B. Check out our affordable and customizable assortment of used RVs and campers online now, or get a better feel by test driving your favorites when you visit us in Frankford today!

Class C RVs

Last but not least in our breakdown of RV types is the Class C. As the most affordable and fuel-efficient of the three primary categories, we tend to see the most requests for this kind of motorhome, which generally ranges from 20 to 33 feet in length. A sort of hybrid of its camper counterparts, the Class C RV offers all the comfort and amenities of a Class A rig with the compact size and navigation capabilities of a Class B traveler. Whether you’re traveling as a duo with your spouse or best friend, or you want the whole family to tag along, a Class C RV may be right for you. As an initial reference point to begin comparing options, take a look at our collection of Crossroads RV Zinger Lite models!

Next Steps: Compare RVs, Travel Trailers, & Campers Near You

Now that you know the difference between the three main classes of motorhomes, you’re well on your way to making a smart decision on the RV you ultimately buy. For a vast variety of recreational travel solutions, look no further than our inventory at East Coast Campers. Contact us in Frankford today or browse our RVs, trailers and campers online now!

Summer is the perfect time of year to get the family together and pile up the RV for an adventurous road trip. If your travel trailer wasn’t sufficiently de-winterized in the spring, however, it may not be as ready to hit the road as you are. This can lead to unwanted mechanical issues and insulation problems — which you definitely don’t want in the middle of a heat wave!

Fortunately, you can prepare your RV for any vacation, long or short, by following the preparation guidelines in this article. For more information on seasonal RV maintenance, repairs, and parts, please visit East Coast Campers online and schedule an appointment today!

Complete Summer Prep Checklist For Your Travel Trailer or RV

RV Batteries

Water Tanks & Plumbing Fixtures

RV Appliances

Tire Pressure

Engine and Fluid Levels

Insulation

Safety Measures

RV Batteries: Check and Charge

If you don’t know much about the maintenance services that go into your travel trailer’s upkeep, RV battery inspection is an essential but relatively easy place to begin if you have the right equipment. Even if you didn’t use your travel trailer much during the previous year, you’ll need to get this task done, as RV battery energy dwindles at a rate of 10% when not in use.

To check your battery capacity, you’ll need to be familiar with the kind of battery your travel trailer has. For instance, your model may have two 12-volt batteries or a series of 6-volt batteries arranged in parallel rows. You’ll also need to have a multimeter on hand. This device measures voltages in both AC and DC, and although some more advanced designs can give you additional features, you’ll be perfectly equipped to check battery capacity with a unit in the $20-30 range. Follow manufacturer guidelines for operation and reference your RV owner’s handbook for details on how to interpret the multimeter results.

If you don’t have a multimeter on hand and don’t want to go through the hassle of ordering or purchasing one, let the pros at East Coast Campers do it for you. Our Service & Parts specialists can even come to your Delaware campsite if you encounter problems on your next summer road trip!

Water Tanks & Plumbing Fixtures: Look For Leaks

Prior to the start of last spring, you likely dewinterized your RV or travel trailer. But if you forgot to do this or think your pipes could benefit from some additional TLC, it’s never a bad idea to perform an assessment of your plumbing fixtures. This process can be time-consuming and technical for the average owner, but it’s a fantastic investment that will save you dividends on repairs and parts in the future.

The best place to start is with your water tank. If you used antifreeze last spring or winter, flush the unit with purified or potable water. Drain and repeat the process until water runs clear. After this, check for leaks. Look around all water-carrying appliances and fixtures, like the kitchen sink, shower, and toilet. If you notice the slightest dribble or drop, you’ll want to get that fixed right away. As for the other plumbing fixtures in your travel trailer, these will vary from model to model and any glaring leaks or structural issues will likely require a parts replacement.

Whether it’s a water tank repair or a plumbing replacement, you have the best likelihood of eliminating the issue when you get the job done by a professional mechanic. You can find affordable and convenient services this summer from our team in Frankford!

RV Appliances: Propane & Electric Evaluation

Nearly all travel trailer models use some form of propane or electrical system to provide energy to their appliances. From the stovetop to the lamp in your bunkhouse bedroom, maintaining the proper flow of energy to RV appliances is critical. The procedures that go into an RV appliance assessment include tests for leaks, gas pressure readouts, and comparisons of your trailer’s performance with manufacturer and industry standards.

Your summer maintenance checks will be different depending on the kind of travel trailer you have, how long you’ve had it, and the listed expiration dates on your propane tanks. To take care of all these tasks, it’s best to do so in a spacious area like a campground or RV park. If you have any issues with your appliances, be sure to contact East Coast Campers for professional advice and local service solutions.

RV Tires: Air Pressure & Alignment

The variety of tire manufacturers is vast and variable, especially those that are produced for large RVs, campers, and travel trailers! Warranty guarantees are subject to range from 5 to 10 years, but regardless of what your tire company claims, annual maintenance (at the very least) is a must-have for your RV’s wellbeing.

You’ll check your RV tire quality with an air pressure reading, since vehicles in storage lose pressure when not in operation. Your owner’s manual should instruct you on the proper PSI. Once this is done, give your tires a thorough look-over for wear and tear, cracks, and signs of damage. Proper tire maintenance can prevent your RV from experiencing an unwanted and inconvenient blow out, so make sure these checks are taken care of before you leave for your summer vacation.

Engine and Fluid Levels: Restock and Restore

The engine in your travel trailer — or any vehicle, for that matter — can only function at its best when all associated fluids are stocked in the right amounts and with the right products. The fluids you’ll likely need to check, replenish, and/or replace include engine coolant, oil, windshield washer, brake fluid, and several others. The amounts of restocking you need to do will be indicated by the gauges in your travel trailer. Unless you understand the functions and intricacies of these engine fluids, you’ll save the most time and money by having an RV repair expert perform a quick diagnostic.

Insulation

Even if you think your travel trailer’s HVAC system is performing the way it should, that doesn’t necessarily mean your RV was manufactured with energy-efficiency and optimal insulation in mind. When you’re getting ready to hit the road, whether it’s for a cross-country adventure or a camping getaway in a neighboring state, the last thing you want to deal with is an RV interior that’s too hot. Not only is a hot interior space uncomfortable, but it can lead to more serious issues like overheated parts — and overheating of your travel trailer’s occupants!

You can assess the quality of your RV insulation by taking a look at its seams and seals. Any cracks, gaps, or peeling parts are a strong sign that you’re losing cool air and energy efficiency, which will cost you money and physical comfort year-round. To find out which RV sealant is right for thermal control of your travel trailer, consult a parts and service representative at our Delaware repair center.

Safety Measures: Be Prepared For All Situations

The remainder of your summer preparation for your travel trailer will involve assessing any safety devices or precautionary measures in your vehicle. Just like any home, your RV needs to have a smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, fire extinguisher, and propane leak detectors. If you’re missing one or more of these, or if one is out of battery, it’s the perfect time to schedule a maintenance session with one of our seasoned professionals at East Coast Campers & More.

Is Your Travel Trailer Ready For Summer?

If you’ve completed all 7 items on this summer prep checklist, then your travel trailer may be ready to go for your next adventure! But skipping just one or two of these essential maintenance processes is a risky decision that almost always leads to transportation issues and avoidable repairs or parts replacements.

The best travel trailers for camping with kids will be the one that accommodates your family’s needs and meets your camping goals. What type of camping do you and your family prefer? Do you have a bucket list of places you want to see? Or would you just prefer to set up camp at the beach as often as possible? Whatever your ambitions to enjoy the great outdoors, the best travel trailer for you is the one that makes you and your family feel comfortable.

It should feel like your home away from home and include some amenities that make life on the road just a little more enjoyable. If you plan on spending a week, a summer, or a lifetime in your RV selecting the right size and fit could make all the difference.

Which type of travel trailer is best for you?

The size of the travel trailer or fifth wheel will be determined by the size truck you have to tow it. Travel trailers have a great advantage because they are slightly larger than fifth wheels and they are easier to haul and hitch. You will need to know what your weight limit is for the truck you own. Here’s a good guide that will give you the weight limit of your truck.

How many bathrooms do you need?

One bathroom or one-and-a-half? It depends on what’s going to be most comfortable for you and your family. Do you have small children or teenagers? A one-and-a-half bath is ideal for so many reasons. It doesn’t take up a lot of room and the kids get to have a bathroom just for them! Another great feature Zinger travel trailers offer is an outside shower with hot and cold running water. A great feature for camping at the beach!

How important is the kitchen?

Isn’t that where everyone likes to hang out after a long day of play? Well, what about having two kitchens? Want to have some friends over for dinner and watch a movie outside? Many of the Crossroad RV Zingers feature an outdoor kitchen with storage and a small refrigerator. Inside, there is lots of storage space, a generous cooking area, and other amenities that you will love.

How much storage will you need?

Remember, there may be times when the weather may not be the best. That means spending time inside… with the kids… so be prepared! You will need a place to store plenty of games, toys, books, crafts, etc. to keep the kids occupied. Having a second entertainment center comes in handy too! The bunkhouse allows the kids to have their own space.

The best travel trailers for camping with kids

We think there are some great features available in the Crossroads RV Zinger that really work well to make camping experience with kids hassle free.

There are two travel trailers we recommend for camping with kids. They are the Crossroads RV Zinger Travel Trailer Models 328SB and the 331BH. Both of these models have great floor plans with conveniences that will make camping with kids so much easier! We have both of these models available on our lot for you to see in person. Both of these features a bunkhouse, one to one-and-a-half baths, and a bathroom accessible from the outside. This provides easy access and makes for quick cleanups, without having to walk through the main living area. What a great feature for camping with young children, and especially when camping at the beach!

Both of these travel trailers sleeps up to six and the bunkhouse for the kids has a wardrobe and entertainment center with easy access to the bathroom. There is another entertainment center in the main cabin with AM/FM Stereo w/ Bluetooth. And everyone will enjoy the electric fireplace on those cool evenings or rainy days.

Other features include an 81″ interior ceiling height, totally enclosed and heated underbelly with forced heat, and the 331BH has a beautiful kitchen island with a 60/40 sink and lots of storage underneath. Take a look at a complete list of models, floor plans, and specifications for the Crossroads RV Zinger here, or contact Michael Moutzalias at 302-927-0541 for more information.
